Historic Hayden House
Exterior Restoration
BGI was honored to complete preservation work at the Hayden House, a historic adobe building dating back to 1873 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With a rich history as a residence, boarding house, apartments, and restaurant—now home to the Downtown Tempe Authority—this “living” structure required thoughtful, preservation-minded care.
Guided by recommendations emphasizing the importance of breathable materials, our team performed a range of targeted repairs and upgrades, including windowpane replacement, installation of custom perforated metal door screens, protective pipe bollards, and detailed stucco crack repairs. To maintain the integrity of the adobe construction, we applied traditional lime plaster and whitewash finishes, allowing the building to properly breathe and manage moisture. These improvements were carefully made to protect the structure’s historic character while supporting its long-term durability.
