Lewis East Substation
12.47kV Rebuild
This rebuild of the Lewis East Substation was a major upgrade aimed at boosting capacity and reliability. The project introduced new 12.47kV switchgear, a powerful 28 MVA 69/12kV transformer, and a full replacement of the 69kV substation disconnects. New 15kV getaway switches, feeder conduits, and cables were also installed to ensure seamless power distribution beyond the substation’s boundaries.
To make way for the new equipment, large portions of the existing infrastructure—including equipment, foundations, conduit, and grounding—were carefully removed. Crews demolished the old transformer and switchgear pads and built new foundations on the substation’s east side, timed precisely to accept new equipment by a critical milestone.
